How did you two meet?
We met through a friend at a Wade Bowen concert at Longhorn Saloon in Aggieville our freshman year of college. And Longhorns is now the 1115 venue where we are having our reception!
Tell me allll about the proposal!
So Dan and I had been dating for about 6 years at this point, so he knew if he planned any date, I would be expecting a proposal. So he decided to go with the complete surprise approach. I was down in Memphis for optometry school and my roommates decided we should have a girls night and get dressed up and go somewhere nice for supper. So they get me all dolled up and out to dinner. While I was away, Dan snuck into our apartment and got everything set up. We were returning home for a night in of drinking and Disney movies, and I walked into the apartment first. As I walk in, I see our balcony door open, twinkle lights across the balcony, At Last by Etta James playing, and Dan waiting for me. I was completely surprised! I don’t remember most of what Dan said, but I do remember a “Will you marry me?” and an immediate “Yes!”
What was your first impression of each other?
I think we both originally thought the other wasn’t interested. I remember trying to talk to Dan at the concert and he wouldn’t really talk much with me, so I assumed he was uninterested. Dan now says he tried talking to me but I wasn’t responsive either. Clearly we were both terrible at flirting. But we became Facebook friends and hung out again and finally started actually talking to each other!
Favorite things about each other?
Dan: I like Stacey’s sense of humor and she’s smart but still down to Earth.
Stacey: I like Dan’s sense of humor and how much fun we have together, I also like how he can find the good in everyone and every situation!
Tell me about the unique and adventurous things you’ve done together
We really enjoy traveling. I spent last summer in Vermont for an internship so we did a week long road trip up the East coast together. We did lots of things from touring cities like Philadelphia and Boston to relaxing along the coast in Maine, and even ventured into Montreal, Canada and toured the Notre-Dame Basilica there. We’ve gone sky diving together with a group of friends. We travel to a lot of cities and do all the top touristy things, but we also enjoy going to smaller towns and seeing what they have to offer. The day after the proposal we decided to adventure through Oxford, MS, just to see a new place. Our goal is to visit all 50 states so we have slowly been checking those off.
What does ‘marriage’ mean to you?
Dan: Marriage to me is truly a partnership.
Stacey: Marriage is two people becoming one and working together in a partnership for life, constantly working together, challenging each other, and growing together.
What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day?
Dan: Sharing our day with all of our closest friends and family
Stacey: I’m really excited for Dan and I to start our lives together, and I’m so excited to share that day with our closest friends and family. It seems like it has taken an eternity to get here, and it’s going to be a great celebration!
