Adrienne & Jacob
How did you two met?
We met while Jacob was in town for winter block leave. I had just moved to Kansas for grad school and didn’t really know anyone. We started texting each other and at one point he was talking about eating pancakes and I said that they sounded good so he offered to come over and make me pancakes the next morning. I had JUST met him and was unsure of his intentions so of course I said no– I really thought I had plenty of time to go on a date with him. Then a couple of days later he tells me he is going home to New York. I was so sad because we had talked nonstop the past few days and I really thought I would never talk to him again.
Tell me alllll about the proposal!
I flew to New York to see Jacob for my Christmas break and we went to New York City the week before Christmas together. We had tickets to see Aladdin, my favorite Disney movie, on Broadway. Afterwards, he wanted to walk and see the Rockefeller Christmas tree. While we were standing in front of the tree, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I cried and then like a minute later another couple asked me to take a photo of them at the tree! They did not see Jacob ask me to marry him. I was still shaking so bad that their pictures are probably awful.

What was your first impression of each other?
Jacob: BEAUTIFUL. And then when she started talking to me, I could see how smart and witty she is.
Adrienne: Jacob was so shy! But as soon as we started talking, he didn’t shut up and was so funny.
Favorite thing about each other and why?
Jacob: how caring and supportive she is. Without her, I would not have been able to accomplish things in my career, like Ranger school.
Adrienne: how he always makes our relationship a priority, even when it is tough. With us being 1000 miles apart and him in the Army, we have spent the past two years finding creative ways to make time for one another and he always puts me, and our relationship, first– even if it means calling me at 3 am out in the field before he goes to sleep when he’s been awake training for days.
Tell me about any unique or adventurous things you have done together.
Jacob: I told her I loved her through a Snapchat message. We have spent our entire relationship through FaceTime, besides spending a couple of weeks together every few of months, since the Army doesn’t allow me to be near her and she’s finishing up her PhD and MBA.
Adrienne: Jacob was training in Louisiana and we had no idea when we would get to see each other so I drove 12 hours from Kansas to Louisiana for our first date.
What does ‘Marriage’ mean to you?
Jacob: spending the rest of my life with my best friend.
Adrienne: having unconditional love and support through life, especially throughout the hard times. Those are the times I lean on him the most.
What are you looking forward to most for your wedding day?
Jacob: finally being able to call her my wife and seeing her in her dress!!
Adrienne: seeing him waiting for me at the end of the aisle and saying our vows to each other in front of the people we love most!
